Mother’s Day Just Happened to Be Our Noah’s Fourth Birthday

Four years ago right now, I was laying in a hospital bed, waiting for my induction (don’t bother slamming me for this, my history, my decision;)), thinking this baby was not going to come. I had been having what felt like “good” contractions for several hours, but he wasn’t moving down. I was distraught and anxious. As my husband prayed over me, and a friend helped me get positioned, Noah moved down and was born less then three hours later. He would be what we believe to be our last vaginal birth. He was not a small baby, or a medium baby, or a big baby. He was a HUGE baby, at least for my frame, considering that neither my husband nor I are over 5 foot nine inches or overweight. He weighed in at 10 pound seven ounces at thirty nine weeks.

One chubby baby, never has lost his chubby.

Noah had a very challenging first few weeks. During his birth, his head and neck were traumatized to a point that he was in continuous pain. Pain that caused him to sleep in a Z position and cry all the time. We had taken him to seven different doctors, who could find nothing wrong with him. We were told it was colic—any other words, something wasn’t right, but they didn’t know what.

This was Noah’s typical expression until he would finally pass out from exhaustion.

In July, I got very, very sick. Brad was super busy in the hay field, and had his mom come over to see if she could help. She took the two oldest children and left me with a fourteen month old and Noah. As the day went on, I figured out I had a breast infection. By nine pm, I was running a 105.3 temperature, and was hallucinating when Brad got home. Thankfully both babies were fine. Brad called our local doctor who directed him to get me in a cool shower. I then collapsed again and by morning it was evident that I must be taken to the doctor. I was given antibiotics, not to be left alone for a few days. I had to get some rest, but that was literally impossible with Noah so fussy.

After I had recuperated some, we made the decision to take Noah to a pediatric chiropractor an hour and a half away. Dr. Lynnette Hendrickson was able to finally offer us the answers to Noah’s pain. She was able to help him and after his first appointment, he slept for the first time in a semi-normal position and did not cry himself to sleep. For the first couple of weeks, we took Noah in two times a week. Then weekly, soon he was a normal happy baby. Lynnette has become our entire family’s chiropractor. Her entire staff is wonderful.

Today Noah is a football loving, tractor craving, rough and tumble little big boy.

He loves his siblings and can go from tackling his older siblings to being a gentle giant with his baby sister. He loves to play in the dirt with his little brother, and catch bugs with his big brother.
