Carlito C. Caterpillar’s MathHouse Games ($23.95) are sure to help you teach math skills using a sensory method that will help your child grasp each concept as they play the forty games.
My children have had a lot of fun learning a few of the concepts. My two year old especially like Alike It or Not. We gathered objects from around the house and then had to figure out if they were the same or different. As you play the game your child is to explain why it is alike or different.
My Five Year old liked the Measure Up game. However, he used the tape measure he got for his birthday rather then the ruler, and was measuring tables, chairs and sisters.
As you can see, these MathHouse Games are sure to help you teach math concepts in a fun hands on way.
Meet Domenico Marcario, M.S. – The creator of Carlito C. Caterpillar’s MathHouseTM Sensory Math Teaching System, is a retired high school mathematics teacher and full-time passionate grandparent!
From birth, children discover facts through sensory experiences. Fueled by curiosity and imagination, children use their eyes, hands, ears, noses, and mouths to learn about their world. They gain understanding by doing rather than by sitting passively and watching someone else do the thinking for them.
The games are designed to build upon the knowledge young children already possess. Only when a child fully understands a concept, will you increase the complexity, such as reversing the roles of the players and designating the child as the leader.
If you focus on maintaining an environment of play, the child will experience the learning as an active participant rather than a passive spectator.Knowledge acquired by the Carlito C. Caterpillar’s MathHouse Sensory Math Teaching System is internalized because it is experienced with the senses through child-centered activities. The system, rooted in a child’s natural learning capabilities, utilizes Math-Tools to model mathematical concepts and results in a deep and thorough understanding of such concepts.

We are not that far along in math. Doubles facts and now “minus 9 problems” have been long struggles for us.
Money! My kid has no interest in figuring out the value of money!

The hardest concept I’ve had to teach in Math is long division. They have a hard time remembering what the next step is and where to write the numbers. They usually don’t even understand what we’re doing at first! I think it has been the most difficult thing to teach so far.

I guess the hardest math concept I have ever had to teach was converting measurements. I have only been homeschooling 7 weeks now and that was something my 4th grader had to learn recently. Thankfully my husband taught both of us
I would love to win these cards, I have a 1st grader, a 3rd grader and a 4th grader any extra helps are great!
The most difficult concept has been counting in general. She has a hard time not skipping numbers and stopping when she is done counting (ie. If there are 3 ducks, she will count to 3 and keep going….keeps pointing at the same ducks over and over).
Division has been the hardest, until they get the multiplication memorized, then it’s a little easier, but typically they introduce both at the same time….so it’s confusing (I think)

I think the hardest concept to teach so far has been teaching the children multiplication - especially as the symbol is so closely related to an addition sign.
