For the first time this winter, I am sick. Sick enough, that I just want to crawl back into bed, and stay there for a few days. However, there are seven other people depending on me to keep it together, so I am making a few adjustments to keep it together and allow myself the extra rest to heal.
- Stop was cloth diapers. I don’t have the energy for extra laundry-running up and down two flights of stairs from getting in the wash to putting it away. This will cut four loads for the week.
- Brown enough ground beef to give us enough meals for five days. I then can throw together meals on a wing and prayer that will suffice until I am back on my feet.
- Stop the laundry cycle-if they have not played outside, are not sick themselves, and really didn’t get dirty, everyone wears the clothes the next day. And GASP-my under 3 crowd never get out of their jammies.
- For school-since we homeschool, I always have some copywork, math drills and reading ready. So, we don’t need a substitute, I just grab my sick folder and hand it out. When they get it done, they move onto the chores mommy isn’t keeping up with. They won’t be done perfectly, but hitting the high spots is better then nothing.
- For my littles, I keep special toys, puzzles, and other activities in one of those LARGE zip lock bags for times such as this. They are allowed one toy each and then they get to trade around.
- Movies! We break out the movies for mommy sick days. I try to make sure they are worth while to watch, rather it be science, character lessons, or history. However, I limit it to two maybe three hours of TV per sick day.
By preparing before you get sick, you can survive and actually have the house thrive until you are back on your feet. Remember with God you can get through it, you may not like it, but you will be better for it. Your children will learn a little about serving others during this time. So, don’t panic next time you get sick, turn to God and the preparations you have made before hand.
