In my life this week…
Homeschool has been a challenge with my oldest. I think we are entering those pre-teen challenge years where he is trying to find where he fits. I am not bashing teens, but I do believe even home school children can go through this, and being that he has always been a very STRONG WILLED child, we are dealing with it. I can say, I won’t back down, as he is not mature enough to have the freedom he believes he needs.
In our homeschool this week…
We have really enjoy our Notebooking Journals from Apologia. They really help my children grasp and retain the information. We are using them for Apologia’s Flying Creatures and Who is God.

When the going get rough…keep pushing on. Perseverance will show through and the blessings will show themselves, some day. At this moment, that day may seem many years away.
I am inspired by…
Other moms who don’t have the easiest days. So often when I discuss troubles with other homeschool moms, I get a blank stare.
I appreciate others being real and acknowledging that we do have trials.

So, proud of being able to make this on her own. Quite an accomplishment for a little girl that is legally blind without her glasses.

My first teenager was a challenge. But I learned from my mistakes with her, and the second teen was far easier.
No, our days do not always go according to plan, and aren’t always easy. I don’t know many (any?) who can say that. Homeschooling is about pushing forward in teaching your children every day, even on the hard days. Thank God for His grace to persevere.
I love the photo you shared of your daughter.
We like the notebooks from Apologia a lot too! I agree too that it is encouraging when we are real with each other!
We all have those struggles - even with the most compliant children. My oldest son (who we just graduated in May) was always very compliant and would do any work I put before him……until 10th grade. Then it was a battle to find any curriculum he liked or would do without griping. We finally made it through, but when I get there with my younger son, I think I will stay firm on the core subjects, but everything else will be geared totally toward his interests in life. They are so burned out by then, they’re ready to be done (and we are too)!
We homeschool five, two with special needs, so we have alot of days that do not go according to plan! I think i try and keep my blogposts upbeat so that other moms with kids of special needs who want to homeschool can find support and some much needed “positive” at my blog, but that doesnt mean the bad days arent happening! How sweet what she made all by herself; such an accomplishment! stopping by from the HMJ linky. come over and read my journalentry about conquering fear. love, katie

I believe it is good for parents to see that we do have bad days. So much of the time, homeschool moms paint this perfect picture, and really are there any days like that? New homeschoolers need to know they are not alone int heir struggles. So do special needs homeschoolers.
I don’t think I am painting a totally negative picture either. We had a ROUGH week with one child, and nearly all my parenting time was spent working with him. That can be hard for the entire family and I want all to know, I am not super mom, cause many believe I am. Being a real homeschool mom, being real about our struggle is more encouragement then the mask of the perfect homeschool any day.
