Not Just Tacos Recipe Book Giveaway

Remember a few weeks ago, I did a review about the Not Just Tacos book and linked you to how to get the eBook version for free? Well, now I am so excited to get to giveaway one of these away in real hard back form. AKA not an ebook.

Due to all the busyness on our farm and running to therapy appointments, I have not gotten to try many of the recipes. However, I have several on my “more relaxed winter cooking” list. My hard back book is full of those little post it note flags of recipes to try.

Our favorite recipe that we have tried is still the Pico De Gallo, and the Arroz Imperial. We just love those.

Really, I love love love most Mexican or south of the border food. And well, tacos aren’t really my favorite.

Heritage History CD Giveway

Teaching Parents Association Convention, Here we come, and a giveaway!!

We are less than a week away from the homeschool convention in my own stomping ground.  The Teach Parent Association Convention in Wichita KS.  I have attended this convention for 9 years. 

From the vendors to the speakers, this convention has always been top notch.  For a Kansas crowd, it pulls in big names.  This year, we will be blessed to hear Todd Wilson and Diane Craft.

Mighty Macs Family Movie Review & Giveaway

About the Movie:
It’s 1971. Cathy Rush is a woman ahead of her time … and she’s about to embark on an adventure for the ages. A new era is dawning in the country and in collegiate athletics, where a national champion will be crowned for the first time in women’s basketball.
In the lead up to this historical season, major universities are preparing their game plans to win that first title. Meanwhile a tiny all-women’s Catholic college in Philadelphia has a more modest goal: find a coach before the season begins. Providentially, Cathy Rush is about to find Immaculata College.
Recently married, Cathy is dealing with the aftermath of a truncated playing career. While cultural norms would have her staying at home, she’s willing to do the hard work necessary to help her new team reach their goals—or perhaps she’s just trying to achieve her unfulfilled dreams through them.
From the beginning, her challenges are as imposing as the big-school teams Immaculata will face on the court. Cathy learns there is no gymnasium on campus, she receives little support from the school’s Mother Superior, and the school is in dire financial straits. To top it off, she may not even have enough players to field a team!
While it appears the Macs don’t have a prayer, all hope is not lost. With the help of Sister Sunday—a spunky assistant coach—and the support of a booster club of elderly nuns, Coach Rush creates a new game plan that just might bring the team—and the school—together.
Will this pioneer buck cultural norms and spur her rag-tag team to unexpected heights? Or will her hard-driving ways create a wedge between the coach and everyone around her? One thing’s for certain: there’s never been anyone like Cathy Rush at Immaculata!

What we thought:

This movie helps to show the importance of team work, and how to work hard to improve team work.  Throughout the movie the benefits of team work were demonstrated and disadvantages of a lack of team work were demonstrated.  We love family movies that help demonstrate a character quality, and this definitely did.  Even my younger children enjoyed snuggling up to watch this together.  We will be watching it again soon.

Doug Phillips is one of the featured speakers for the Teach Them Diligently Convention. I have had the pleasure of attending two other conventions where Doug was a featured speaker. He is awesome and we love so many of the products that he has available through his store. In fact I did a ton of my Christmas shopping through Vision Forum. If you have any creation questions, large family questions, Doug is the man to ask…of course, Dr. Voddie Baucham could answer many of them also. The Teach Them Diligently Convention is quickly approaching. In fact, there are just 44 days until it starts. Have you registered yet? I took care of this a few weeks ago.

Yesterday I went through the vendor list and made my plan. Hey, and they have updated since last night, so, I must go through it again…yay!!

For those wondering, there will be recordings of workshops, so you can get them at a later date, if you are not able to attend, but I believe if there is a possibility that you can attend, you need too. This is going to be one of those conventions that will be worth the money you spent to get there.

All vendors had to sign a form explaining that their products align with the young earth Creation beliefs. There isn’t anything questionable going to be allowed at this convention. This is what drew me to this convention way back in September.

The Teach Them Diligently Convention was born out of a recognized need for more events celebrating the focus of Christian Homeschool Families—which is to disciple their children to glorify God. The organizers of this Convention are also officers of Worldwide Tentmakers which is a Mission Agency focused on Tentmaking as a missions strategy as you would find in Acts 18. Therefore, Missions, discipleship, and parenting will be a large focus for the Teach Them Diligently Convention. This will be added to the normal Homeschool Convention focus on teaching techniques and use of curriculum.

There will be two distinctions to this Convention. First any vendors that touch on the Beginning or Creation or have a Bible Curriculum must sign a statement in agreement of two theological principles:

  • Scripture teaches a recent origin for man and the whole creation, spanning approximately 4,000 years from creation to Christ, and the days in Genesis do not correspond to geologic ages, but are six [6] consecutive twenty-four [24] hour days of creation.
  • The Bible is the plenary, verbally inspired Word of God. It is our final authority for faith and practice and is without error.

Second, all of the profits for the Teach Them Diligently Convention will go to missions. It is our hope to help parents infuse their educational programs with a Great Commission focus. Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God (I Cor. 10:31). We desire to focus parents and children on the fact that we should be seeking opportunities to spread the fame of our Lord Jesus Christ whether through school, playing sports, or running the family business.

Home Educating Family’s On the Go Planner~ My brain on in a book!~Giveaway 3 Winners!!

I am not naturally organized.  In fact, even when I try really hard I am not really organized.  I have great ideas, and I mean well, but, in reality, I am just not an organized person…or am I? 

In fact, I have made wonderful forms that keep my older children organized in their homeschool lesson and records, but when it comes to keeping me organized…well, I really struggle.

Well see, I am getting better, because now I have this book that is now my external brain…The On the Go planner from Home Educating Family and Well Planned Day.

 

This planner has saved me a lot of trouble, embarrassment, and chaos.  I write down everything in it.  Notes from online meetings for work, dates for everything, blog posts to write, when my product reviews are due, menu plans, grocery lists, household projects, and more.

My On the Go Planner has a place on my desk, a place in my bag, and is used during grocery shopping.  I don’t leave home without it.

The On the Go Planner has a monthly layout with weekly layouts following each month.  The weekly layouts start with Monday, have a place for chores or tasks, a timed schedule that you can write in appointments for each day, a place to write your dinner menu, a shopping list area, and what to do while out and about area, There is also a place for household projects, purchases to make, Birthdays and Anniversaries to remember, and bills to pay.

Each week has an encouraging quote, and also an area for notes. 

Right after the monthly layout each month there is a Money Management area.  It has just about everything you could think of here. 

At the front of the planner, there is:

  • year at a glance
  • Goal Planning pages
  • Article about Resolutions
  • Annual budget and expenses
  • Homemaking Special Projects
  • Greeting Card Registry
  • Addresses
  • My Responsibilities
  • Notes

This planner starts with July, and is based on a school year.  Between November and December, there is a simple Christmas or Holiday Planner.  Example pages can help you understand the Planner’s set up.

This planner has been a saving grace over the last three weeks.  When I planned the A Journey Through Learning Facebook Party, I used this planner to keep me on track.  By the day of the party, I was literally so ready that I was driving myself batty just trying to wait for it to start. Smile  In my previous non On the Go Planner Days I never would have been that ready.

I am ready at the drop of a hat for a day of grocery shopping, and can tell when I have appointments or activities all in a glance.

The On the Go planner is the planner for mom, or other busy women.  It has just about everything you can think of.  

This planner is small enough to fit in your purse or diaper bag, yet big enough to write it all down.  It is also very cute.

Proverbs is one of those books, I wished I had memorized verbatim, however I don’t and I want to change that for my children. That is one reason I recommend Uncle Rick Reads the Proverbs to all my friends. Uncle Rick stops and takes time to explain confusing areas to be sure that children understand the meaning behind the verses.

Rick Boyer reads the Book of Proverbs just as he reads it to his own kids — complete with comments, colorful example stories and simple explanations of unusual words in the text. Replenish Your Soul To Have and to Hold Online Marriage Conference~Giveaway

As some of you may have noticed, I am speaking at the Replenish Your Soul Online Marriage Conference ($10.00) brought to you by At the Well Ministries.

There are going to be some great speakers that will encourage and challenge you in your role as a wife.

 

While you are in the conference room, you will be able to watch and listen to the speaker, view a PowerPoint presentation through the session (if the speaker chose to put one together), and interact with other attendees through a live chat area in the conference room. We will also send out reminders each day of the conference with the links for easy navigating.

As far as the sessions, each session will last for about 50 minutes. The speakers will be coming in through a live video-feed from their web cam on their computer. There will be at least 10 minutes in each session for questions at the end.

The Grace Card DVD Review and Giveaway!

This movie grabbed me from the first scene…Maybe it was the little boy on a bicycle who is riding without training wheels for the first time or just the fact of the “happy family”, until…something bad happens.

The Grace Card is rated PG 13, but honestly, I watched it with all my children ages 2-11 and really didn’t see a problem. There was just a bit of violence, but it was brought out to show how grace, forgiveness, and life with Christ can come full circle. I would not want my children watching it alone, as I would want to be available to answer their questions.

This movie is just over 1.5 hours.

 

When Mac McDonald loses his son in an accident, the ensuing 17 years of bitterness and pain erodes his love for his family and leaves him angry with God … and just about everyone else.
Mac’s rage stonewalls his career in the police department and makes for a combustible situation when he’s partnered with Sam Wright, a rising star on the force who happens to be a part-time pastor and a loving family man.

Mac’s home life is as frightening as anything he encounters on the streets of Memphis. Money is tight and emotions run high as he constantly argues with his wife and his surviving son Blake, who is hanging with the wrong crowd and in danger of flunking out of school.
Sam Wright also never expected to be a police officer. He has a calling—to be a minister like his Grandpa George. But leading a small, start-up church doesn’t always put enough food on the table for a young family, so Sam doubles as a police officer. With his new promotion to Sergeant, Sam starts questioning if his real calling might actually be police work rather than the pastorate.
