We are Growing, Keeping in Touch

As my blog grows, I am adding new ways to keep in touch. Some of you probably follow through email, Facebook and so forth. I am now adding a newsletter that I plan to be sending out about once a week or every two weeks. I will share a few links to blog posts, special links to things I find around the web, sales and freebies related to homeschool, Christian wives, parenting, farm and all sorts of goodies, tips and hints I learn and funnies around the farm.

Google Friend Connect~Follow via another option…Lastest group picture

I want to alert all my wonderful readers, that Google Friend Connect is phasing out, and therefore, I have removed that follow option.

Please, follow one other ways on my blog.  I honestly believe RSS or Email are your best options.

I hope to pick up my blogging after the first of the year.  I will be talking more about life here on the prairie and less reviews, more about our homeschool, our farm, our new cow herd and so forth.

Below is a picture I was able to grab on our last short outing.  That tree was made to hold six children, don’t you think?

Goal Planning Monday~March 28

Last week’s goals:

1. To get our taxes done.  YUCK… DONE!!

2. To enter and color code the straggler box of books and get them on the shelves.  Umm, does a huge box full of books count?

3.  Enjoy more outside weather.  Weather was kind of yucky all week…even snowed yesterday.   good excuse, right?

4.  Start thinking about a written summer schedule/routine.   I thought about it, does that count?

This week’s goals.

1. Finish putting together my new blog.

2.  Gather guest posts for the above blog.

3. Keep up with my personal blog.

4. Complete my Latin review.

5. Complete registration for homeschool convention, as soon as funds are available.

6.  Keep up morning family school, and other school projects.

That will be enough, as I am a bit overwhelmed at the moment.

When Blogging takes Away From You and Family

I am sure my die hard readers have noticed a drop in the number of posts.  Am I sad about that?  No, because in the end my family is winning.  My blog stats are dropping, but I figure they will even out eventually, and if not, then obviously, it is time to redirect further.

My reasons for backing off the blog, are mainly because between, farm wife duties, mom duties, blog duties, garden duties, house duties, homeschool duties, and Christian duties, I was lost in it all, and not able to give my best to any of them.  On the above list, do you see any that could easily take a back seat, without affecting my family?  Only blog?  Well, me too.  So, until some of the things around here settle down, I am slowing my blog down as it has been, three maybe four posts a week.

I know some of you have about three hours of your day set aside to blog.  While your children nap, before they get up or after they go to bed.  Well, in our home, our children go to bed just thirty minutes before I do, why?  Because our daddy/(hubby—aka The Hot Guy on FB) doesn’t get home until nine o’clock most nights.  He leaves around seven am most mornings, and comes home for an hour or so for lunch.  So, since we homeschool, I have set up our daily schedule around his work hours, so our children can have some good daddy time.  Therefore, before they get up—which is seven am, or after they go to bed, which is ten pm, is just not really an option.  So, I am left with about an hour and a half, during naptime, and there are about five hours of things that need my attention then.

I am even contemplating stopping Nature Study Tuesday after the end of October.  We won’t spend much time outside, and I am not sure that many will be.  Our time outside, won’t include many pictures that is for sure, I haven’t mastered photography with winter gloves on. ;)  I will continue to post reviews, and homeschool tips and snips.

I am also involved in two part time home businesses to help supplement our income.  I am designing for Two Mom’s Designs, and I have started selling books and other educational products through Usborne Books and More .  I love helping parents find great educational books for their children.

I have several recipes, and other things to blog about when the time comes that I actually have a bit of free time, where I can hold my head up while I sit here and write something that makes sense. ;)  So, if you have missed me, sorry, if you haven’t, well, ok, and if you are sticking with me through this, THANKS.  When I had made the decision to slow down, my blog stats were rocking, and I felt like things were going so great, on the web.  However, things at home were not going so great.  My children were begging for my time, and I was so busy keeping my stats up that I was lost in cyber space.  I really felt God pulling me back into life at home, and asking me to put my blog on a back burner.  Since then, I have learned that my blog really will only thrive if life at home is also thriving.  So, I will continue this slow down until I fully feel like things are on the right track everywhere. ;)

Now, go play a game, or read a book with your child.  I am headed to work on my bedroom. ;)

Where Have I Gone? No where, but home…

Well, no where really, but I am cutting out some of my blogging time. As a mom of six, starting back to homeschool, an injured horse to take care of, and garden produce to preserve, I have had to prioritize my time. Blogging is going to be cut back to 2-4 posts a week. I have actually finished the book Passionate Housewives Desperate for God, though I didn’t keep up with the blogging side of it. This is one reason I am cutting back. Another reason, is I wan to be able to get set in our schedule/routine, and then get back to blogging more. So, though, I am slowing down, I will be around. I will keep up with Nature Study Tuesday and Homeschool Snips & Tips Wednesdays for sure. I will also have lots of curriculum reviews coming too. I need to prioritize my priorities more to be like this: God Husband Children Family things Homeschool Household tasks Blog You can still connect with me on Facebook, Twitter, and such, but I will be here blogging a little less.

My New Adventure-Two Moms’ Designs, My Blog Design Business

When I started blogging way back when, I never dreamed that I would have enough knowledge to design and customize my own blog. Well, with lots of God and prayer, lots of perseverance, and lots of patience, head banging, and help from others.

Back before our oldest son was born, my sister Elaine, got me into scrapbooking. Well, with six children=12 hands=120 fingers, traditional scrapbooking is not a realistic way of stress free creativity. As I got to blogging more, and reading other blogs, I saw what appeared to be a way to scrapbook on the computer. More research and more adventures led me to wanting to design my own blog. In February, I got a new computer, that has some design type software on it, I dove in. In April, I purchased more design software, and have really been able to make some neat designs.

Our goal is to build a blog with an appearance that you will be proud of at an affordable price. I am working with another mom, together we have built Two Moms’ Designs. We specialize in designs for Blogger and WordPress, theme customization and blog migration. We also offer Thesis theme for WordPress. I invite you to take a look around our site. We have a special place for bloggers to gain little tips to help them become better bloggers.

We are Up and Running…

However, I will be working on some things still. A very special man has helped me tremendously, I appreciate his generosity very much. I have not moved any of my widgets, nor have I redirected my old site yet. I am not sure when this one will be the main site, but we are definitely closer this morning then we were yesterday. Thanks for sticking with me, if you have come by here already.

Have a great day all.

My Life on the Prairie-As a Child of God, Wife, Mother, Homeschool Mom.

I have been interested in blog design for some time.  However, due to limited knowledge, and limited finances, I have not been able to do my own, until I got this new computer.  I have played and designed a bit, and learned a lot.  Over the last few days, I finally found the design that fits me.  Sunflowers, and my favorite picture of my children, with a close up of their faces.  I love this, why?

The tractor in that picture has been in our family for four generations now.  It was sold out of our family back in 1993.  In 2009, my husband bought it back, and it is one of the few things we have from my father’s side of the family.  My father passed away September 16, 1996, (my 20th birthday).  He was a farmer, and I married a farmer.  I married my dad in many respects.  My husband and my father never met.  I am sure my dad would be proud though.  Who would have thought that I would ever have six children, and be happy about that, and pray for more?

My husband and I are both only children.  I do have a half sister from my dad’s first marriage.  However, we grew up many states from each other.  We know each other much better now then we ever did growing up.  She will be here with her family for a visit in a few short days.  Our plan is for a family photo shoot.  She is practically a professional photographer, so this is going to be GREAT!! We will have pizza part to celebrate her 40th and our 12th anniversary.  Of course chocolate cake will be there too.

Why sunflowers?  My dad’s favorite flower was a yellow rose.  My favorite flower is a yellow rose.  However, yellow roses, don’t quite go with tractors, or prairies.  Where I live during the summer, you can see sunflowers along every ditch and in many pastures.  There are even sunflowers grown for grain now.  So, sunflowers naturally went with my blog’s name, Peace Creek on the Prairie.  I have loved yellow since I was a small child.  My girls’ bedroom is a very pale yellow.  Yellow was going to be part of my blog.

Why red?  Some people will tell you that I am either wearing red or stripes.  Umm, yeah pretty much.  Red is one of my colors.  Why?  I really don’t know.  I like the way it contrast with my hair.  It mixes with jeans well, and you can find me in jeans about all the time.  When our family will be in a crowd, we all wear red-makes it easy to find each other.  Red was meant to be part of this blog.

This blog is about my world.  My world as a stay at home homeschooling mother, christian, wife, woman, child of God.  It is about my life as a farmer’s wife, as a cook, a baker, a nurse, a teacher, a woodworker, a housekeeper, a farmer (yep, I drive tractors, pick up hay bales, and other farm duties), a gardener.   So, what you read here, is me, as a transparent sometimes hot headed, passionate, and opinionated person.

This blog is a ministry for women in whatever walk you are. I was not always a Christian, and have fallen away and crawled back.  You can see the real person that I am here.  There are days I struggle, there are days I am on a high that only God can give.  There are days I am so low, only God can pull me through.  My words of encouragement, advice and love come from Him.  My passion for all things in my life comes from Him.  So, pull up a chair, grab some chocolate and a cup of cappuccino, get to know me through the pages of my life here on the prairie where the sunflowers bloom and the groan of tractors working the fields are as normal as the pavement and sounds of honking horns in a city.  Here at Peace Creek on the Prairie it is peaceful, with the sounds of children laughing, tractors groaning, and mom working hard to follow God’s journey along His chosen path.

Header Design—

I am still going to work on it some, but wanted to get that much of it up.  I may go back to a white or even another color background for it.  I am not sure where to go from here. lol  I have had a bit of help removing some lines that showed up when I made my graphics, but thanks to a wonderful internet buddy that knows more then me.  She got rid of them.

So, what should I add?  I have some fun swirlies in colors to match, and a bunch of other fun things.  Or I could change it up even more.  My hubby seems to think it needs hay bales, but I can’t seem to make any the right color.  Oh well,  I am a mom, he is the baler dude. hehe.

It is so nice out, think instead of sitting here, attempting to fry my brain on a blog design, I will take the kiddos out to play and try this on a rainy day.

Happy weekend all!!
