DYI: Making Antiqued Paper

Basic Disclosure for all post

This year we are doing a little more notebooking. Since we are studying the Beginnings and Ancient Egypt eras, I wanted some “old” looking paper for my children to do some of their notebooking on. I really couldn’t find what I wanted, and decided to try making my own.

Antique paper

First I bought some Parchment Paper.

Then I took a piece and tore the edges off in a short zig-zag kind of a way.

Tear Edges off

I then mixed up some instant coffee and water together. Quite a bit of coffee to water. Winking smile

Coffee Mixture

I used the foam brush to brush the coffee on to the paper.

Brushing Coffee on Paper

I used quite a bit of coffee mixture and a few coats right over one another. I let it sit for a couple of minutes and then took a paper towel and light wiped the excess off.

Wiping off Excess Coffee

After the first side had dried some, I “painted” the other side of the paper following the same steps. I did not have trouble with the paper curling. The heavier the paper the less trouble curling you will have.

Finsihed Antiqued Paper

Let the paper dry completely. Now your children will have some coffee smelling, great homemade fun paper to do some of their notebooking on. If you want to make the paper smell even better, add a little Vanilla Extract to the coffee mixture.

Peace Sig

What a fun idea! We’ve blended up scraps in the blender and made our own paper - but this is an easier idea and better for notebooking - thanks!
