You know, not all days are good when you are homeschooling, however how you handle those days speaks very loudly to your children. We woke one morning, and one of my children seemed to forget how to read, the mouse for the children’s school computer broke (desktop), and the baby was fussy. The kindergartener does not have independent book time, and things just weren’t going to well.
I called the school’s “hot” principal, with the idea to just take a fun day that would include making memories, not the kind where mama is in the corner begging Calgon to take her away. He agreed. Sometimes, God puts these bumps in your homeschool road, so He can take back the lead. My children sat around coloring, reading a new atlas, playing games, reading books, and helping with a few chores that have been neglected.
Other times on days like this we will cook, bake take a nature walk, play out side all day, or just watch movies. I am not a perfect homeschool mom, um actually I haven’t met one yet. However, this year I have set a goal, that I will not become stressed when we have days that could easily turn into one of those “Calgon take me away” days. Nope, we will roll with it, and learn to accept those days and see just how much we can learn on those days.
Taking a deep breath and allowing God to run your homeschool day for you will give you freedom you never thought you could have. We don’t have these days often, but when we do, is it really so bad, just to let things go? Isn’t it good for our children to watch us deal with these types of issues? When they grow up and are out on their own, there will be days where nothing seems to go right. No, they probably won’t be able to just walk away from the circumstances, but they, by learning by our example should be able to use the tools we taught them how to make the best of it.

I did this today! No one was feeling top notch, we did our morning routine, I had the books out. That’s as far as I got. We read a lot, did flash cards on the iphone and chilled today. Some of our best learning days are when we scrap the schedule!
