Homemaking~Organizing the Bathroom Shelves

I like to keep extra shampoo, conditioner, soap, and such on hand. The problem is, with children getting bottles out, my bathroom closet shelves can fall to pieces quite quickly.

This past weekend, I decided to work on my bathroom closet. Granted with my bum arm (horse spooked with our six year old on her, I dove for the horse’s reins and was drug dangling on my knees for about 8 feet, my shoulder and elbow soft tissues are a bit stretched out, but not torn, and quite sore) I wasn’t able to get to all the shelves. I did however get five of them done. Below you will find before and after pictures.

I hope to get a few more shelves done over the next week. I think the best way to go about cleaning out closets is to empty the entire closet, have a trash, wrong room, and donate bag handy. Dive in and get ride of everything that doesn’t go there, and then start sorting and putting away. This can be time consuming depending on the size of the closet.

Homeschool Goodies to Get your Hands on!

I try to keep an eye out on things, you and I might want to use in your homeschool. Lately, several have come across my Homeschool Mom Radar, and I would like to share them with you!! Each of the products below, have either been used in my home, or I will be purchasing soon for our homeschool.

We used TimesTales a couple of years ago, and wow, it helped a ton. I highly recommend them and now they even have a DVD that would be wonderful for the auditory learner.

I am hoping to try the chore products soon too. These look wonderful for the child who forgets what they are supposed to do in each room.

Do you have a child that struggles with handwriting? What about a child that loves tracing pages, but always wants them to say his own story. Startwrite is software that helps you make your own tracing and handwriting pages. It is fully customizable and easy to use. We LOVE Startwrite!.

WonderMaps makes Mystery of History are an AWESOME History and Geography duo. These work together seamlessly.

We are using these pages with our Mystery of History Study. They are AWESOME!! They have them for each of the three volumes.

I am so interested in Illuminations. I have pondered over this for some time and am even going to take a harder look at it at the Teach Them Diligently Convention, if it is there.

I looked at Balancing the Sword this summer, and I passed it up, however as I plan for next year, I am planning to make the purchase. Vision Forum will be at the Teach Them Diligently Convention, and it is on my list to pick up.

Lately, we have been using a ton of pages from Notebooking Pages. We just finished using a set of Kansas pages, and will soon be using a few for Presidents Day and Black History month. I will definitely be renewing my membership this year. I have loved just being able to login and get what I need.

This sewing machine is very similar to the one I have. I love my Janome. My six and nine year olds are also learning to sew on it. It is a great machine to learn on as it is easy to slow down the stitching speed. The needle threader rocks too!!

The above products are either products we have used or I am planning to purchase for the upcoming year. I recommend these and believe them to be safe for the conservative Christian home.

The Convention Notebook

I have discussed preparing for a convention, and even mentioned my convention notebook. Last year, I even posted about a convention notebook. However, because I wanted to be sure to pack as light as possible and still have a nice sturdy writing surface for the Teach Them Diligently Convention, I have used my comb binder and laminator to make a new and improved binder for the Teach Them Diligently Convention.

First, I tried to figure out a way to use a page protector as my front cover. I want to be able to slip my Convention schedules in here, and remove them for changes. To punch these with my comb binder, I had to take a piece of scrap cardstock on one side and insert them into the punch together. The page protector also give me a place to stick handouts, brochures and the like.

Next, I used colored cardstock as my dividers to help organize my notebook.

Now, it is time to add my Workshop notes and extra blank lined pages. I will take notes on these pages, they have a place for the speakers contact info and their website.

I then added another divider and added my Curriculum Idea pages for each child. This page is a list of curriculum I want to check out for each child.

Next, I have added my Convention Booth Planner. These pages are a list of vendors I want to check out, complete with a place make a list for items to look at.

My last page is a Curriculum Needs Price Comparison Form. I list a curriculum and then vendor and their price across the page. This way I can tell at a glance where the best price is.

I also have a plastic baseball card page in my notebook to put business cards and contact cards in. I can also put coupons in here.

My last item in this notebook is a plastic two pocket folder.

This notebook will clip on to my clip board for a nice writing surface. The benefits of this notebook, over the three ring binder is that it does fold back over itself easily, without damaging the spine. I have ruined several three ring binders by bending them back to make them more lap sized to for easy writing in the close confinements often found at conventions.

We spent more time outside. The weather has been gorgeous and we have taken advantage of it.

We played catch up. We had fallen behind during the last days of Brads aunt’s life. So, we caught up from that, and are not ready for a fresh week full of new learning experiences.

He is awesome and we love so many of the products that he has available through his store. In fact I did a ton of my Christmas shopping through Vision Forum. The Teach Them Diligently Convention is quickly approaching. In fact, there are just 44 days until it starts. Have you registered yet? I took care of this a few weeks ago.

Yesterday I went through the vendor list and made my plan. Hey, and they have updated since last night, so, I must go through it again…yay!!

For those wondering, there will be recordings of workshops, so you can get them at a later date, if you are not able to attend, but I believe if there is a possibility that you can attend, you need too. This is going to be one of those conventions that will be worth the money you spent to get there.

All vendors had to sign a form explaining that their products align with the young earth Creation beliefs. There isn’t anything questionable going to be allowed at this convention. This is what drew me to this convention way back in September.

The Teach Them Diligently Convention was born out of a recognized need for more events celebrating the focus of Christian Homeschool Families—which is to disciple their children to glorify God. The organizers of this Convention are also officers of Worldwide Tentmakers which is a Mission Agency focused on Tentmaking as a missions strategy as you would find in Acts 18. Therefore, Missions, discipleship, and parenting will be a large focus for the Teach Them Diligently Convention. This will be added to the normal Homeschool Convention focus on teaching techniques and use of curriculum.

There will be two distinctions to this Convention. First any vendors that touch on the Beginning or Creation or have a Bible Curriculum must sign a statement in agreement of two theological principles:

Scripture teaches a recent origin for man and the whole creation, spanning approximately 4,000 years from creation to Christ, and the days in Genesis do not correspond to geologic ages, but are six [6] consecutive twenty-four [24] hour days of creation.

The Bible is the plenary, verbally inspired Word of God. It is our final authority for faith and practice and is without error.

Second, all of the profits for the Teach Them Diligently Convention will go to missions. It is our hope to help parents infuse their educational programs with a Great Commission focus. Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God (I Cor. 10:31). We desire to focus parents and children on the fact that we should be seeking opportunities to spread the fame of our Lord Jesus Christ whether through school, playing sports, or running the family business.
