Funny Things on the Farm.

Over the years, me actually driving one of the farm trucks has become quite scarce.  I mean, really, not like I can leave the house with my children in a pickup. So, whenever I do go somewhere in them, it seems it always turns out funny.

Back in June, I took off ahead of the rest of the family in Brad’s (my hubby) old beater 65 GMC pick up.  The clutch has always ben a bit umm…persnickety.  This day was no different.  I get into town, on main street no less, and it dies, as I am turning into the parking lot.  I get it started and shift into gear to go and it dies.  So, like every good farm wife, I give it a little “extra” gas to get it going a bit more, and it back fires and dies. Yep, on main street, with all eyes on me.  Now we are rolling and we hit the curb….Fun times, I tell ya!!

Today, I take his other new pickup…uhh, 1974 is new compared to a 65 right? First, I can’t get it started, then I finally get going, and….it starts hiccupping.  So, you know, I am thinking great out of gas, or??  So, I call him and this is normal, nothing to worry about…Ummm….hmm, ok?  I get to town and get out of the chiropractor and it won’t start…turn the key click clunk…hmm, well, uhh.  Old man sitting in car next to me is LAUGHING…well, I am going to show him, I can start this thing right? So, I did, and put it in reverse and it dies.  Yes, I do believe my Hot Guy, really likes to umm, embarrass me in his farm trucks. So, I get it going again and get to the parts store to pick up parts for my van.  Scary ehh?  Anyway, so a friend is there, and he is like, do you always leave Brad’s pick up running.  Uhh, no, but I have a lot of trouble starting it.  He looks at the parts in my hands and says

“Well honey, those won’t be fixing it”

“I know, these are for my van”

The look on his face…PRICELESS.

Anyway, so I get back to the Hot’ Guy’s shop and grab kiddoes up and we start loading in the van while he puts the oil in and new blinker bulbs and gets it done.

We get home eat lunch everyone is sound asleep during naptime, when my phone rings…

Some one is in that 74 pickup and stranded….maybe those hiccups need some attention? lol

I am just glad it gave up with him and not me.  Another homeschooling friend’s hubby picked him up and that poor ole’ 74’ pickup is in line for getting into the shop now.

Life on the farm ain’t easy but ALWAYS entertaining.

I am the wife of one of those farm truck lovers. We have a 79 outside (really new, huh?) that is tender. you treat her right and she might run. You don’t treat her exactly as she demands and, well, forget it.

I’m envisioning you in the middle of town dealing with the truck! Bless your heart–been there! My alternator died at 6p.m. on a main artery out of downtown (in the “big city”). My hubby had a 73 Ford pickup (olive green). He claims “those were the days for trucks.”
